RCIA
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is how non-Catholic adults prepare to receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism and/or Eucharist and Confirmation) in the Catholic Church. Those who have never been baptized in any Christian tradition prepare to receive all the Sacraments of Initiation during the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday evening. Those who have been baptized in another Christian religion prepare to make their Profession of Faith, to be received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church, and receive Confirmation and First Eucharist. (The Catholic Church recognizes Baptism in other Christian rites.) The Candidates for Full Communion at our parish may be received into the Church at Easter or at other times during the year. RCIA participants attend weekly sessions and participate in various liturgical rites that mark their passage through the initiation process. The RCIA sessions meet year-round and do not follow the traditional school year model. In this way, an individual can come into the RCIA at any time during the year. RCIA is directed by Tony Butel, Pastoral Associate, and is led by a team of volunteer parishioners. Parishioners also serve in the role of sponsor to someone in the RCIA process. The RCIA team coordinates the ministries of hospitality, sponsors, outreach ministry opportunities and community. Some team members also serve as catechists for the sessions. For more information about the RCIA, or to volunteer as a sponsor or team member, contact Tony Butel, Director of Adult Faith Formation, 816-251-1113. |
