Annual Giving Tree Project

Each year Presentation Parish collects toys, clothes and other items needed by individuals and families in the area served by Lee’s Summit Social Services, and elderly persons in care centers through its Giving Tree Service Project. The trees are placed in the gathering space from the third week of November until mid-December.

Summer Giving Baskets

Each summer our parish collects school supplies for families served by Lee’s Summit Social Service (LSSS) and our parish programs.  In 2009, LSSS served 769 children.

Collection baskets with tags are placed in the gathering space the first weekend of July through mid-July.  For more information contact the Children’s Faith Formation Office at 251-1135 or 251-1146.

El Salvador Committee

Our Lady of the Presentation entered into a partnership of solidarity and hope with the people of the community of San Rafael Cedros, El Salvador in 2006.  The El Salvador Committee works to foster this partnership as they coordinate sponsors for the student scholarship program and send delegations to El Salvador.

In 2010, we have entered into a commitment to sponsor 17 high school students at $300 each and 10 university students at $1,050 each.  To make a difference in the life of someone through education, to travel with a delegation, or to become involved in our committee contact the Children’s Faith Formation office at 251-1135.  All are invited to attend the El Salvador Committee Meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Mulligan North Room.

Pro-Life Group

The Pro-Life Group meets the second Tuesday of the month to plan and coordinate Pro-Life awareness and events in the parish including the annual Roses for Life campaign in January. Contact person: Andrea Harrington.

Lee’s Summit Social Services Food Drive

A food drive is held the first full weekend of every month. (If the first weekend is a holiday weekend, the drive is held the second weekend that month.) All donated food is delivered to the food pantry at Lee’s Summit Social Services, an organization that helps the less fortunate in our community. Watch the bulletin for details of particular food items needed each month. Donations should be placed in the south side of the gathering space.

Project Uplift

Project Uplift is another program our parish is committed to by serving the homeless of Kansas City. On the second Monday of each month we assist by delivering meals to the homeless. For more information, call the Youth  Ministry Office, 251-1103 or 251-1107.

St. James Soup Kitchen

Our parish serves the homeless and poor at the St. James Soup Kitchen the first Thursday and third Tuesday of each month. We assist by serving already prepared food and cleaning up. Anyone 12 years old or over is welcome to volunteer. For more information,  call the Youth Ministry office, 251-1103 or 251-1107.
