Liturgical Ministries
Altar ServersAltar servers assist the priests and deacons during Masses, including weddings and funerals. This ministry is open to all parish youth in grades four and above, as well as adults. (Funeral servers are primarily adults.) If you would like more information on how to be an Altar Server, please contact the Parish Office at 251-1100. Music MinistriesVocal Ministry: 125th Anniversary Choir Celebrating 125 years in Lee’s Summit, our Anniversary choir is composed of singers from all three Lee’s Summit parishes; Holy Spirit, St. Margaret and Presentation. Regular rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 PM in the auditorium. Cantors Cantors assist the congregation in singing during liturgies. This ministry is open to all adults and middle school age youth and up who enjoy singing and who preferably are skilled in voice and music reading. Choristers School Choristers is a long standing choral tradition in the Roman Catholicand Anglican Churches. Choristers in simple terms is a children’s choir. Typically, Choristers is made up of children who have the gift of singing and are trained to excel in the musical art of song for the purpose of worship. Admission to Choristers is by audition. It is open to singers entering the Third through Eighth grades. Singers wishing to audition should prepare their favorite hymn or song. Priority is given to children of OLP before the acceptance of children from other parishes. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings 6:30 to 7:45 in the church. Men’s and Women’s Ensembles Ensembles for men and women allow the expanded opportunity for these groups to lead in worship and at special parish events. The groups are open to persons from middle school and older who have an interest in singing music specifically written for their voices. Parish Choir The Parish Choir sings at 10:00 AM Mass, September through May. Choir membership is open to middle school and older singers who enjoy singing. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM in the church. Saturday Ensemble This combination instrumental and vocal choir is open to parishioners of all ages who enjoy singing or playing an instrument. The Ensemble provides music at the 4:30 PM Saturday Mass. Instrumental Ministry: Handbell Choir Open to experienced and not so experienced ringers. Handbells play once a month during the school year and for special seasonal masses and programs. Our handbell group also presents music at other churches and care facilities. Rehearsals are Monday evenings at 7:00 PM in the church. Intergenerational membership: grades six through adult. Instrumentalists Persons play orchestral instruments are welcome to play at our weekend masses. Saturday masses are accompanied by guitars. Anyone who plays an instrument is invited to contact David Armstrong for opportunities in Presentation’s Instrumental Ministry. Other opportunities in Presentation’s Music Ministry will be announced in the parish bulletin, newsletter and under “Liturgy and Music” on the parish website.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion distribute the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass. This ministry is open to all adults and older high school youth who are registered parishioners, have a sincere love and appreciation for God’s gift of the Eucharist, have been fully initiated into the Catholic Church through the sacrament of Confirmation, and who are not restrained through a marriage situation from receiving the Eucharist themselves. Diocesan training for certification as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist is provided several times a year at various locations. GreetersGreeters provide hospitality at weekend Masses by welcoming all who attend our church, by distributing weekly bulletins, and by answering questions. This ministry is open to individuals as well as family groups, and is best suited to those who enjoy interacting with people.
LectorLectors proclaim the Word of God during Mass. This ministry is open to all adults and older high school youth who are registered members of the parish, have a sincere love for the Word of God contained in scripture, have been fully initiated into the Catholic Church through the Sacrament of Confirmation, and who preferably possess good reading skills and a clear speaking voice. Diocesan training for certification as a Lector is provided several times a year at various locations. Mass CoordinatorMass Coordinators helps to ensure smooth functioning at weekend, holiday, and Holy Day Masses by directing liturgical ministers and keeping the Presider informed about procedures for special events, etc. Return to the top of the page
